    Every man and his dog has a podcast these days. I now have 3. Podcasts, not dogs.

    But my latest one is perhaps a little more relatable than four nautical-themed characters prattling on about old timey things or two guys irritating Michael Caine…

    David M. Green and Other Famous People!

    It’s a collection of interviews, all of them featuring me and another famous person. The first two episodes are now available on iTunes for your downloading pleasure.

    Episode 1 is my 2006 interview with Tony Martin. I’ve also managed to dig up an ID he recorded as John Howard, which I’d completely forgotten about and hasn’t seen the light of day since it first aired on the now non-existent Flinders University Student Radio.

    Episode 2 is my first interview with Shaun Micallef. And I’ve also included the ID he recorded, which won me the 2007 South Australian Community Broadcasting Association “Bilby” Award for “Best Station ID” for some reason.

    But hey, don’t think this’ll just be a junk yard for my 6-year-old Radio Adelaide interviews. I’m planning on recording some NEW interviews with NEW famous people. Stay tuned.

    And if you’re wondering what ever happened to that podcast I was doing with Anthony McCormack – The Good Show – we’ve been struggling to find adequate studio facilities and nice people to let us record there for free. It looks like I’m going to have to bite the bullet and buy my own equipment so I won’t be faced with this problem again.

    It’s quite ridiculous the history of trouble I’ve had with getting access to recording facilities.

    SAFM said I could use their studios when I worked there in 2008, but they wouldn’t give me a computer login, so I could record but I couldn’t get the audio off the computers. Around the same time I was making sketches for 891 ABC Adelaide, but they wouldn’t let me record the sketches there, which were FOR THE ABC. Ridiculously, we had to use community radio facilities at Radio Adelaide, until Radio Adelaide found out we were recording non-Radio Adelaide things. They didn’t like that.

    For a brief time when I was working at MTR, I had access to their fabulous studios. Until they shut down in March. Fun Fact: “Studio Pleasant” is now the SEN news booth.

    I feel like Monet without a steady supply of canvases. Or Beethoven without his hearing.

    So I guess I’m saying I’m Beethoven.

    Yes! I’ve finally managed to bribe the good people at iTunes HQ to allow the water-breaking comedy show “On The Yacht” on to their respected… place of podcasts.

    I mean, this isn’t a new radio show. The episodes have been available here since they aired on Radio Adelaide 101.5FM in the summer of 2008/09. But you know the kids these days. They’re are all about the iTunes…

    Yes finally!

    It’s been two weeks since Antonio Cafasso and I teamed up for a 7-hour straight graveyard broadcast on Melbourne’s SYN 90.7FM, and I’ve finally cut together the podcast.

    Now, I know you people are busy with your various “commitments” (work/family/various drug addictions/etc.) so I’ve created a “Best of The Magic Factory” podcast just for you, the listener on the go:

    But enough of that… Hello!

    Yes, I’m David M. Green and I’m making radio sketches again! If you’re in the Melbourne area, tune into SYN 90.7FM Sunday evenings 7pm-8pm. There’s a show on called “In Joke”.

    Unlike my other radio shows back in Adelaide, I didn’t “invent” this show (I don’t quite have the time to commit to that just at the moment). In Joke has been running for some length of time, I’m not really sure exactly. I don’t have the details, because it’s not my show! Some other guys host it. But they’re light on pre-recorded material. That’s where I come in. They’ve provided me with an outlet for my love of making radio sketch comedy. Find out more about the show itself here or join the Facebook fan page.

  • Shootin’ the puns with Tim Vine

    Hello!

    David M. Green here, blogging live from Melbourne, and have I got a treat for you! On Tuesday I was thrilled to interview UK comedian Tim Vine!  I loved him in “The Sketch Show”, so much so I even named my “On The Yacht” radio character after him (Norman Vine). He is the undisputed “Master of the Pun”.

    We met outside Cafe Mediterraneum on Swanston Street directly opposite the Melbourne Town Hall. However, it turned out they closed at 5pm, so after taking some photos in a nearby stairwell we found a table alfresco across the street at Brunetti’s. I jammed my Zoom H2 recorder in the umbrella-holder in the centre of the table and recorded our conversation. It’s without a doubt the most enjoyable interview I’ve ever conducted. Tim Vine is genuinely hilarious.

    Depending on various planetary alignments, a written segment of our interview will hopefully appear in an upcoming edition of RMIT University’s Catalyst Magazine. However, due to my supreme respect for the medium of the Internet, here now for your listening pleasure is the interview in full:

    Topics covered include his show “The Joke-amotive”, Guinness World Records, best and worst puns, his appearance on Neighbours, The Sketch Show, Scrabble, Steve Coogan, Shaun Micallef and Tim plays “the judge” in a mini-version of the comedy equivalent of “So You Think You Can Dance?” that I (DMG) invented just then: “So You Think You Can Pun!”

    After the interview some good friends and I attended his show “The Joke-amotive”. Very funny. I’d certainly recommend seeing it. I think the last performance is tomorrow. Not all the jokes were hilarious but hats off to him for quantity. There must have been over 200 jokes in that hour, and the hilarious ones were certainly worth waiting for. Excellent prop-comedy too. 5 Stars.
