  • Marslando Bloom

    6 years.

    RIP Richard Marsland

    1976 – 2008

His spirit lives on in all lovers of radio, comedy and capes.

I was fortunate enough to interview Richard Marsland in December 2007:

This last year especially, there were many times when I wish I could have given Richard a call and asked for his thoughts and advice. And he would have given them, because that’s the kinda guy he was.

Wish he was still with us.

Appropriately, I’ll be spending the evening behind the radio panel at Melbourne’s 1116AM SEN. A Farmer’s Union Iced Coffee will also be involved.

    Yours sincerely,
    David M. Green

  • I am a media machine

    Ahoy hoy!

With 31 Questions Season 3, writing for Mad As Hell and panelling the footy for Crocmedia, I’ll be a media machine for the next couple of months. Let me give you the low down…

31 Questions Season 3 starts taping from February 27, and will tape a new episode every Thursday night until April 17. If you’re in Melbourne, or want to drop in, I’d love to see you in the studio audience. There’s been bigger demand this season, so we’ve actually got TICKETS now! So get your FREE ticket(s) by emailing: 31qaudience@gmail.com

In addition to the free laffs, there’ll also be fabulous merchandise available for low, low, crazily low prices.

And if you’re coming all the way to Melbourne to see a taping of 31 Questions, you may as well come to an episode of Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell. You just might see me lurking in the halls. Studio audience details available here.

“Italian-style hand gesture where the fingers explode forth from the mouth”

But if comedy isn’t your thing, I’m not sure why you’re on my website. But as the AFL season approaches, and eventually gets here, you’ll be able to listen in to Crocmedia’s “AFL Live” on radio stations around Australia, as well as online via the AFL website and iPhone app. The inside scoop is Rex Hunt will be returning. And who knows what else? I’m thrilled to be back at the panel for my third year!

And in other news, Too Easy (that webseries I sometimes do with Alex Williamson) has been selected to screen at the 2014 LA WebFest in Los Angeles! Check it out:

    Fern leaves and everything!

So if you’re in LA between March 26-30, drop by the Radisson LAX Hotel and tell ’em I sent you. Or just pretend to be me. Unfortunately, I can’t be there because I’m a media machine. Kind like this:

If you haven’t already, form some sort of connection with me on Facebook and Twitter. I’ll probably be hangin’ round those parts of the Internet with everything going on over the next couple of months.

    Kind regards,
    David M. Green
    How good is this?

  • 30 Seconds to Marsland

5 years ago today, Australian show biz got a little less nice.

    RIP Richard Marsland

    1976 – 2008

An inspiration for anyone who’s ever written a joke. Panelled a radio show.
    Or worn a cape.

I was fortunate enough to interview Richard Marsland in December 2007:

He’s been a big influence in my life and career. Ever more so with each passing year.

Wish he was still with us.

    Yours sincerely,
    David M. Green

  • Hooray for student media

In response to new Education Minister Christopher Pyne’s comments last week RE: again abolishing compulsory student services fees at Australian universities, I wrote an opinion piece for ABC’s The Drum website about my own experience last time it happened and the impact it had on student media.

Read my thing here: Student media needs student fees to survive.

The good people at Radio Adelaide – where my media career began – saw the article and invited me onto their breakfast show on Monday to have a chat with Radio’s Angus Randall. It was slightly too early in the morning for me, but you can listen to the audio here.

Always too happy to give back to Radio Adelaide, the station that gave me everything. Including an award, which they have since misplaced.

If anyone sees the 2007 South Australian Community Broadcasting Association “Bilby” Award for Best Station ID 2007 anywhere, would you let me know?

    Kind regards,
    David M. Green
And good to hear The Empire Times is back up and running.

  • 31 Questions Season 2 Episode 2

31 Questions S2E02 aired on C31 Melbourne & Geelong on Saturday 3 August 2013. Could we have conjured a more “game showy” picture than the one in the above YouTube preview image?

If so, I’d like to see it.

Anthony McCormack did a sensational job editing/booty-shaking this one. And I love his Don Bradman gag. Sequentially, this was actually the third episode we shot for this season, and from memory there were quite a lot of problems that night. So it’s good to see it wasn’t a complete write-off (like the first two!).

    Other 31Q things…

Thursday evening marked my first time on Melbourne radio station 3AW. I had a chat with Philip Brady, Simon Owens and John Blackman about the show (mainly mine, not so much theirs). Both John and Simon have made appearances on 31 Questions. Their episodes are coming up in the next few weeks.

Amazingly in this media-saturated modern world of ours, the 3AW webcam video of my interview was on YouTube within minutes. Saves me uploading the audio myself. Check it out (stay watching right til the end to see some innovative signaling from the panel operator):

Here’s an interesting bit of news. I was about to reveal it on 3AW before getting sidetracked, but in our upcoming fifth episode – which was actually the sixth one we taped and will air in Melbourne on August 24 – not only is that the episode John Blackman makes an appearance, but the dude contestant that week is Rohan Zorz, who just Monday entered the Big Brother house as a “latecomer” contestant on Channel Nine!?!

I find this all very bizarre. Usually Big Brother contestants appear on game shows AFTER they’re kicked out of the house.

Read Rohan’s profile on the Big Brother website (if you dare visit a reality television website).

Unfortunately, a cursory glance at the #BBAU tweets shows a general hatred of Rohan. Exactly how this legion of teenage girls with anti-Rohan agendas will affect 31 Questions is yet to be fully understood.

And lastly, due to repeated requests for fabulous 31 Questions merchandise, I’ve set up an online store on Big Cartel. Check out our NEW 31 Questions 31-Stop Shop!

At the moment, we’ve got the classic DMG mug for sale for the reduced price of $20. We’re working on some new designs, so keep checking to see what we’ve got in stock. All proceeds will go towards the future of 31 Questions (there’s already been talk of a third season 😉 ).

See you Saturday for Ep 3.

    Kind regards,
    David M. Green
Still not going to watch Big Brother.
