    Hello!

David M. Green here in blog form. What a turbulent week… I did some stand-up comedy on Saturday night at the “Star Theatre” in Adelaide’s fabulous western suburbs. It didn’t go so well. Maybe it was the atmosphere. Maybe it was the audience. But most likely, it was because I freaking forgot the damn routine and just stood there silently for 30 seconds trying to remember my next joke. Actually, that was definitely it….

So needless to say I was feeling pretty down all week: Cognitive dissonance at work, people. Allow me to illustrate… I, David M. Green, believe that I am funny. However, on Saturday I did some stand-up and I bombed, mainly due to personal incompetence (Just for something different, I thought if I practiced LESS it would make for a more spontaneous performance. Instead, I couldn’t remember what I was going to say). Then there’s a conflict between my personal belief (ie. I’m funny) and reality (ie. I suck). And as in this biz, you’re only as good as your last ‘gig,’ for most of the week, I was a complete hack.

However, last night at the Rhino Room, I had another go. The routine was about 50% the same material, but the material I did repeat I re-worded for maximum comedy output. And this time, I killed! Everything just worked. The audience was great. The other comics were quite good for a “new-comedy” night. It was fantastic. So, dissonance corrected, confidence restored, reputation redeemed and self-esteem reacquired. If you haven’t watched it already, you can view the GOOD stand-up performance at the top of this blog entry. Your comments and feedback are always appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    David M. Green

  • Trees: A Sound Experiment

    Hey and hello, etc.

David M. Green once again, speaking to you via the medium of blog, not to be confused with the medium of log. Although you could be forgiven for making that assumption, considering the topic of this particular entry. Behold my latest straight-to-The-Internet sketch!

In this short visual motion picture film, I attempt to find the answer to the age-old question, if a tree falls in the middle of a forest and no one’s around, does it make a sound? I spared no expenses, excluding ‘money’ of course… and ‘time’ I suppose… But I can assure you I spared no amount of ‘thinking.’ But why did I make this sketch? You just can’t leave it alone can you… Na, you’re ok. In fact it was my audition video for a new Zapruder’s Other Films/ABC TV show to be aired in late 2009, code-named “Project NEXT.” Alas I was not successful. I’m guessing they were looking for someone who took the audition seriously… But no loss. At the very least it was an excuse to finally get around to filming this sketch, which I actually wrote back in 2004!

So please enjoy, if you haven’t played the video already, “Trees: A Sound Experiment” by me, David M. Green.

    Kind regards,
    David M. Green

  • Video Game Doctor Sketch

Hey folk… well, here it is:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idsuZXwTRm4

And there is was (above). My latest straight-to-YouTube sketch visualisation; the so-called “Video Game Doctor Sketch,” in which Mario, played by Nick Godfrey, goes to see Dr Eggman Robotnik MD (me) and discovers that a quarter of a century of his hectic “super” lifestyle has finally caught up with him… Did you pick all the Nintendo and Sega references?

Special thanks must go to Chandlers Hill Surgery in Happy Valley, for allowing us to film there and to use all their medical equipment (the x-ray monitor, stethoscope, the prescription drugs to keep us alert and focused). I also must apologise for the aspect ratio. I do have a full 16:9 widescreen version, but I for the life of me couldn’t take advantage of the new “widescreen” YouTube because it kept stretching it out of shape, so I hope the letterboxed version doesn’t throw too many die-hard Nintendo fans into a rage of nerd obscenities…

I must say I love making these sketches. It’s always a really fun afternoon of filming and evening of editing, plus it lets me live up to my status of self-proclaimed “sketch comedian.” So thanks again to Nick Godfrey, Matthew “Smiddy” Smith, Voice-Over’s Tim Wray and Lizzie for using her genuine receptionist skills on camera, and also for taking these photos:

  • Never Gonna Give YouTube Up

Hey to you, you YouTubers you,

David M. Green here. And slightly above here is my latest audio-visual sketch; a song parodying blue-eyed soulster Rick Astley’s 1987 hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up.” My version however, is all about the video sharing website, YouTube, and its title is a no-brainer. I must admit though, I don’t do too many song parodies, the primary reason being that I am a terrible singer. I prefer my straight sketch comedy and leave the music to the professionals… maybe ‘sprechgesang’ at most… Ah Fred Schneider, how I wish I could speak words like you…

But anyway, it was all I could do to stay in time with this song, which I didn’t, and tone? Oh man, I’m all over the place… I can’t tell you where I am but I know it’s not where I should be. But then I thought hey hang on… no it’s ok… it’s satirical! Yeah… that’s it… It’s a satire on all those people on YouTube without talent, but who still upload videos of themselves singing in the shower. Or at least, I’m certainly hoping it’s satirical… and it’s just a coincidence I also can’t sing myself. Although I recall from memory I didn’t do a bad job on my last song parody back in 2006: “The Dave Chappelle Corby Rap.” But of course, I suppose I didn’t put that one online for a reason…

    Kind regards,
    David M. Green
Never gonna give YouTube up, even if they did remove my “KKKmart” video… Bastards…

  • Lack of Seating Forces Sketch Comedian to Stand…-Up

Good (insert appropriate time period here),

Hello again, David M. Green… I mean, I’M David M. Green. I’m not calling YOU David M. Green and saying hello to you. That would be inefficient. Only a hand-full of other people in the world are called David M. Green… Also, it’s pretty silly. My apologies… BUT ANYWHO… Last Thursday I comically stood-up and did some stand-up comedy at Adelaide’s fabulous “The Rhino Room.” Funnier than the last time. Plus I wore a tie! Enjoy!
