  • THE Big Show! That’s… 3 Ms

    He-he-hey!

What’s up? No time to wait for you to answer. Get a load of this…

You can hear the audio fruits of last week’s recording day in the form of “THE Big Show” on the tree that is the Triple M network in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide this Sunday August 30 10pm-midnight as part of Semi-Pro Radio! We reveal some ridiculous movie trailers, weird stores and what some people have carelessly left lying around Triple M. Plus Nick’s tips on avoiding Swine Flu, a trip down That’s Sexist lane, prank calls with a Smiddy soundboard, lawnmowers coming out the back-lot and some other junk we managed to throw together at the last minute before we were shown the door!  THE Big Show! It’s funny (51% new material).

It really has been a fantastic experience. If nothing else it’s been an excuse to catch up with Matty B again, whom I haven’t seen since he last left Adelaide to return to Sydney about 18 months ago. He came over for 2 weeks and the whole team (Matty B, Nick, Adam, Tim & myself) all met every couple of days to discuss, write, plan, analyse, nit-pick and then record the show (in between just hanging out and wasting time). In a way it would have been easier if we were doing 20 shows, but because we’re only doing it once, the pressure’s on to make it the best…

There’s still some finishing touches to make before it all goes to air in a week’s time. I’ll post more soon.

    Kind regards,
    David MMM. Green

  • So it comes to this… A COMEDY SHOW ON TRIPLE M!

    Hey Hey!

Okay, let’s get straight to it. Now that it’s been posted on the Triple M website, I can now reveal to YOU that Matty B, Nick Godfrey, Tim Wray, Adam Navarro and myself will be putting together a once off 2-hour comedy show that will go to air on the Triple M radio network on a Sunday night! WOW!

But how did we manage to scam our way into this? Good question. For reasons unknown, Triple M and some advertising people came up with the idea for this contest called “Semi-Pro Radio.” It’s a contest open only to people who work for the advertising or “creative” industry. I entered as an employee of “Allan Miller’s FAST Voice-overs” (technically they count… pretty clever huh?). Entrants put together a show proposal. A number of finalists are selected (13) and those finalists, one of them being us with our show: “THE Big Show,” get to fill 2 hours of air time on Triple M. Then after all shows go to air a winner is selected, yada yada yada something about fabulous prizes… You can read all the details here.

But anyway… WE GET TO MAKE A COMEDY SHOW FOR TRIPLE M! This is a dream come true for me personally. Triple M’s “Get This” (from the comic genius of Tony Martin, Ed Kavalee & Richard Marsland) is still, and will probably always be, my favourite, and the GREATEST radio show of all time. I realise that there’s no way I could ever do a show as good as Get This. However, that’s what we’re gonna aim for. Hey, it’s a once off appearance. We might as well make it the absolute best, funniest, greatest 2 hours of radio we can. I don’t care if we don’t win. I just want to do a good show so afterwards I can say “yeah… that was pretty funny.” Plus I’ll get to reunite with Matty B, whom I rarely see these days as he lives in Sydney. It’s THE Big Show. Be on THE look out for it and of course, when I know more (like, WHEN it will air) I’ll put the info up here.

On a personal note, tomorrow will mark one year to the day since I met and had lunch with Richard Marsland (of Get This fame… obviously). I don’t think I would be doing this show on Triple M if it had not been for the advice and assistance he gave me. I owe him a lot and I really wish he was still here to see this.

    Kind regards,
    David M. Green

  • Carole Whitelock’s invitation to The Dream Factory

    Hey hey,

What a bizarre situation I found myself in yesterday… After a chance meeting with 891 ABC Adelaide’s own Carole Whitelock, whilst working at the Palace Nova cinema (I was working there, not her, obviously), one thing lead to another (no, not in THAT direction…) and she invited me onto her radio show!

I’m of course no stranger to ABC 891. Last year I made some appearances and performed sketch comedy for Peter Goers. Funnily enough, it was that experience, combined with listening to a lot of AM radio in general, that provided the inspiration for my latest comedy show “On The Yacht.” The show featured a number of characters, most of which were based on other personalities from the AM-band. And there I was, ON one of the very shows we, let’s be honest, pillaged for material, talking about how we did it…

I was allowed to play a couple of clips from “On The Yacht.” Surreal to hear them broadcast via amplified modulation, presumably to an audience, which was a nice change. And so much fun. Had a slight technical problem recording it, but hopefully I’ll have the audio up here soon. It’s light entertainment, so I couldn’t be too zany. But then again, that’s what “On The Yacht” was all about… at least, initially… but then it got pretty zany at the end… I think we had a ghost in the studio at one point…

But anyway, here’s the clip: Click here click here click here. And thank you also to Elk and Robbie, Carole’s fantastic producers, who, unlike certain others that shall remain nameless, managed to play the sketches without cutting them off with a bushfire alert.

  • The Partially Complete News from Tim Wray

    Greetings,

As anyone who listened to the latest satirical radio show I was kinda involved with would know, and anyone who didn’t wouldn’t, but will soon… a staple segment of On The Yacht was a cross to Voice-Over’s Tim Wray, in the news room. And now, for no reason, here are 10 of his very fake and somewhat hilarious news breaks:

News Update #1 – Blood, Finance & Snow
News Update #2 – Sports, Ships & Celebrities
News Update #3 – Trials, Traffic & The Middle East
News Update #4 – Classifieds, Politics & Traffic
News Update #5 – Vienna, Telecommunications & Killer Campervans
News Update #6 – Pronunciation, Markets & RIP Brian Simmons
News Update #7 – Feminism, Adult Relaxation & Melbourne
News Update #8 – Fire, Obituaries & Nick Blue
News Update #9 – Weather Alert, A Fleeting Affair & Bad Traffic
News Update #10 – Lottery numbers, Child Abduction & Asbestos

And for the fanatical, you can learn how to make a bomb here, or if you’re just a fan of Tim Wray, there are a few little extra ‘breaking news’ sketches on the On The Yacht page. Enjoy. Or perhaps not. Up to you!

    Kind regards,
    David M. Green
